A horn is a pointed projection of the skin on the head of various animals, consisting of a covering of horn – keratins and other proteins – surrounding a core of living bone. Horns usually have a curved or spiral shape, often with ridges or fluting. Horns start to grow soon after birth, and continue to grow throughout the life of the animal. One pair of horns is usual, but two or more pairs occur in a few wild species.

Musicians who play the horn are called horn players or hornists. Natural horn is the ancestor of a musical instrument popularly known as the french horn. The bugle is the smallest horn and made from either animal horn or metal. In order for the instrument to be played in different keys, crooks - parts of curved tubes with different lengths and finger holes – valves – and detachable cup-shaped mouth pieces are inserted, to change the length of the instrument and the sound and pitch.

Thus, a natural horn was transformed through hundreds of years, from a hunting instrument to a complicated orchestral musical instrument.

During hunts and battles natural horns were used as signaling devices to summon animals or to sound war cry. It was also a status symbol of rich and wealthy land owners.

Horns of the rare to sight Musk Ox from high altitudes of Himalaya is also known as head hunter warrior horn. It is an insignia on the house of Nāga warrior from Nagaland as a head counter for killings from enemy tribes. It is used by native warriors as gun powder horn, and as a vessel for drinking and sharing wines and for dispensing ritual sacred water by tribal priests. It is also called mithuna Gemini horn of love and vigour after the musky odour of male musk which attracts females during mating season.

The shofar is mentioned often in the Hebrew Bible. Halakhic authorities hold that hearing a shofar on the radio or the Internet would not be valid to satisfy the mitzvah because “electronically reproduced sounds do not suffice for mitzvot that need hearing a specific natural sound. . .a shofar may be made from the horn of any animal from the Bovidae family except that of a cow although a ram is preferable.

Marco Polo Ram’s Head – the headgear of Alexander the Great - is symbolic of victory, warrior attributes and fertility.

Named after the 13 th century western explorer Marco Polo, who described the Ram for the first time, in his book – Travels of Marco Polo. He spotted the Ram in the Pamir mountain ranges in Badakhshan province at an altitude of about 15,000 Ft (4800 Meters)

Ram is one of the Egypt’s best known God’s Temple animal. It is sacred in various civilizations and mythological concepts, from as back as the Mesopotamian (3000 BC) to the Egyptian and Greek civilizations and is seen as an incarnation of the God Jupiter – Ammon.

When Alexander the Great conquered Egypt, he visited the shrine of Ammon, by dressing himself for the celebration, with the skin of ram and the horn as headgear. Since then, the horns of ram – horn of Ammon are shown like a crown in Alexander’s portraits and depicted on Alexander’s coinage.

Marco Polo Ram’s Head is a special skill qualification badge of the Vermont Army Mountain Warfare School of the United State Army.

Establishment of dominance through the fight during the rut season by mature male ram, is a peculiar behaviour and Marco Polo Ram is symbolic of virile sensual behavior by strong human fertile men.

Total worldwide population was around 10,000 Rams (2003).

The Marco Polo sheep is considered the greatest trophy of Asia by most big game hunters.

Expedition Collected Art Encapsulates Compressed Knowledge. There is great joy in sharing Art with like-minded Art lovers, and in helping them collect Top Art at realistic pricing. www.silkroadantiqueartexchange.com prayerforknowledge@gmail.com Lost Arts Hunting Expedition. 600 Days – 13000 Miles – 85 Camps. Snow blocked high altitude Mountain passes. Wild Forests. Obscure Native Trading Posts. Some have governed by Jungle Law, Law of the Mountains and Dictatorships.

An interesting insight into the world of Art Buying. An exhaustive Online Resource for All Art Lovers. Silk Road collector carries to your doorsteps Online Art Gallery of 2000 Top Art and Antique Objects and invite you all to explore and pick from the treasure.

The Silk Road Collector and his Expedition Team have personally chosen and handpicked the Art, by exploring parts of circa First Century Silk Routes – Amber Routes – Spice Routes.

For many of the Top Art, moderate quantities alone are available, until fresh supplies after the next expedition, which is not scheduled.

Several Art Objects originate at least one generation behind the present times, and were laboriously handcrafted by ancestral artists.

The Silk Road Collector has personally verified ancient process documentation and hand working tools that were deployed in the making of such Art Objects. Such select art forms are now almost near extinction, as the current generations of the artist families have chosen alternate careers.

A few art forms are family heirlooms from the inherited personal collections, bought persuasively by Silk Road Collector from reluctant clever Native Tribal Headmen and erstwhile Royal families. They have exotic history and legends attached with first acquisition.

All the art forms are well researched and backed up with extensive documentation.

Barring some factory produced replicas, deliberately showcased to ease differentiation, Silk Road Collector assures his patrons, that only genuine, rare and thus Top Art alone have found a place in his private collection. It is now put on online sale, for the first time after the “Expedition 2007″

Delight of the Spirit of Freedom – that always oozes out with every high adventure, wild romance and spiritual ecstasy. It is stuck in abundance on several Top Art Objects. Possess what you like, while you can, On First in First Served basis.

In knowledge transmission, pictures are superior than words. Art Expedition Travel is a great teacher. And expedition collected Art encapsulates compressed knowledge.

The investment of time, efforts, money and resources in conceptualizing, researching, planning and undertaking of the Lost Arts Hunting Expedition 2007, in the safe transportation of the Art Objects and later years of post expedition research and art indexing endeavors, have been phenomenally high.

Human life risks of participating Expedition Team, not counted. Hassles in the inbound transportation of the Art, not accounted.

Silk Road Collector believes, there is greater joy in sharing Art with like-minded Art Lovers from the world over, than avariciously hoarding them in his Private Museum.

Silk Road Collector would love to pose before his patrons from Antique and Art world market place, 7 fundamental questions; answers to them might emerge, an all new trend setting bearing, of self assessment of investments in Top Arts.

Can a well researched documentation about the facts and legends related to a certain class of Art Form be extended to any piece of Art from that given class and result in value appreciation of Art Object ?

The mere age of an object might give it Antique. But can that alone make an object artistic and valuable ?

To what extent unverifiable claims of possession or usage by a historical persona, related to a given Art Object, could have a bearing on the valuation of that object ?

A unonimous Master Artist is carrying out his/her passion in choosing an art field. In some far away nondescript exotic location, amidst true virgin nature. Not exposed to Whites and modern civilizations and mechanized tools of Art production. How do we check such art ?

How would a conventional demand – supply – price – economic matrix work, for Art Objects that are not supported with supply chain ?

An Art Object is personally handpicked by an art lover by flying, sailing, traversing and encountering life and death situations, over say 13000 miles pursuit, for that object. How would we decide the cost of acquisition ?

Are prevailing western bench marks of art evaluation adequate to assess unique Art Objects ?
